Maximise the productivity of you Mobile Crusher and Screener
Crushers, Screeners, Stackers and Trommels work in some of the harshest environments with some of the hardest materials. Crushing and Screening materials such as granite, rock and concrete for hours a day, day in day out can be tough going. That’s why looking after your mobile crusher and mobile screener is vital to maximise your productivity and profits.
For maximum productivity, all parts of the machines must be at their optimum working capacity. Processing hard materials means the wear parts and components are susceptible to wear and if not maintained effectively, can hinder your crushing and screening process and cause further damage.
A well maintained McCloskey machine will crush and screen the hardest of materials with ease and retain a healthy residual value.
It is important to perform daily checks to maintain and optimise a mobile crusher and screeners performance. Daily checks on the punch plates and mesh is a key starting point as some of the primary wear points.
The Feeder
The feeder of a mobile crusher is the first point of contact. The feeder of your McCloskey mobile crusher may vary, it may have an independent prescreen or an integrated grizzly and depending on how you load material into it, may affect the wear on your machine. Loading with an excavator rather than a wheel loader is often preferred as you have more control over the material entering and impacting the hopper, better visibility and smaller loads allow you to monitor and control your feeding activity.
The Crusher
The section susceptible to most wear is the crusher itself. The extent of the wear will depend on the material the machine is crushing. Jaw crushers and Impact Crushers vary in their set up and crush material differently. Impact crushers use more moving parts to crush material by impact where a jaw crusher uses fewer moving parts but uses compressive force to break down material. Crushers are designed and engineered to work hard. All McCloskey machines are manufactured with hard wearing components and parts but it is still best practice to check them over daily to keep your productivity at it’s best.
Conveyors
Once the material has been crushed, conveyors send the material out of the machine. These are generally external and easy to keep an eye on. You will easily notice if a belt is starting to wear. To maximise their performance, ensure the tracking is central and it doesn’t pull to one side or rub on the chassis of the machine. Keep an eye on the quality of the rubber belt and ensure it moves freely.
Tension Mesh Appropriately
Once your material is crushed, it is time for a screener to sort through the sizing to produce your sorted final product. Screens are made up of wire mesh, check daily to ensure there are no broken wires as this will affect the performance and the quality of the end product. It is also important to tension the mesh correctly. If the mesh isn’t set up and tensioned appropriately, it is likely material will bounce around causing damage to the structure.
When setting up your machine, ensure it is set up on level ground. Uneven ground will encourage material to impact the sides of the machine more easily.
The Engine – The Heart of Any Machine
Finally and as with any machine, it is imperative to keep the engine healthy. Ensure you look after the engine in your machine by checking the oil, coolant and hydraulic fluid levels regularly. McCloskey have a team of highly experienced field service engineers to keep your machines running at their best allowing you to stick to the recommended service schedule.
